Dashboards that carry their own data.

A dashboard is usually a view into a system that may not exist next year. An IDOP dashboard can carry a snapshot of its data with it — and, if you allow it, refresh from one declared source.

§ 01The problem

What tends to go wrong today.

  1. Shared dashboards break when access, schemas or tools change.
  2. Exports to static files lose the ability to filter and drill down.
  3. Sending data to a hosted tool is not always permitted.

§ 02Where IDOP fits

What the format changes.

Snapshot in the file

Data is saved in the document, so the view still works when it is archived.

Explicit data flows

Any refresh is a declared origin, with a purpose shown to the person opening the file.

Runs locally

A document opened from disk is processed in the browser; the data is not uploaded.

§ 03Honestly

What exists today — and what does not.

Available today

  • Templates with charts and summaries: net worth, budgets, habit tracking, timesheets

Not yet

  • Connectors to common data sources (research)
  • Large datasets beyond the format’s size limits (not supported)

§ 04Examples

Documents of this kind.
