MCP connector

Your assistant, in your IDOP Cloud.

The IDOP MCP server lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT create real .idop documents, read and update the data in them, and share them — in your own account, after you sign in and approve it.

§ 01Server address

One URL, for every assistant.

Available

Remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1)
https://mcp.idoplabs.com/mcp

The server speaks the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP. Signing in uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration: your assistant opens the IDOP Cloud sign-in page, you approve the connection, and the assistant receives a token that acts only as you. There is no API key to copy.

You need an IDOP Cloud account. The connector works on every plan, Free included.

§ 02Add it by hand

Three assistants, a minute each.

Claude

  1. Open Settings → Connectors on claude.ai or in the Claude app.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it IDOP and paste https://mcp.idoplabs.com/mcp.
  4. Select Connect, sign in to IDOP Cloud and approve.

Every Claude plan can add custom connectors; the Free plan, one.

ChatGPT

  1. Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create.
  3. Name it IDOP, paste https://mcp.idoplabs.com/mcp and choose OAuth.
  4. Sign in to IDOP Cloud and approve.

Developer mode is available on the ChatGPT plans that include it.

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add --transport http idop https://mcp.idoplabs.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in.

Listings in the official Claude and ChatGPT directories will follow; until then, adding the server by hand works the same way.

§ 03Tools

What an assistant can do — and only when you ask.

Tools offered by the IDOP MCP server
ToolKindWhat it does
get_authoring_guidereadThe rules for an IDOP 1.0 document that works
get_starterreadA complete, working document to build on — an app or a whiteboard
list_filesreadFolders, projects and files in one folder of your cloud, with their paths
search_filesreadFind files and folders by name — or, with no query, the documents you changed last
read_documentreadWhat a document is, the data saved inside it, and its source — in parts, however large
show_documentreadShow a document in the chat: a live card you can try, open or download, where the chat displays apps
validate_documentreadCheck document sources without saving anything
create_documentwriteCheck, pack and save a new .idop in your cloud — or hand it to you as a download — refused, with every problem listed, if it would not work
update_documentwrite · destructiveChange a document’s code as a new revision of the same file, keeping its data
update_document_datawrite · destructiveChange the data inside a document, as a new revision
get_download_linkwriteThe .idop file itself, behind a link that works for 24 hours
create_folderwriteA folder, or a whole path of folders
move_filewrite · destructiveMove or rename a file or folder you name
create_share_linkwriteA link with an expiry and an optional password — only when you ask
list_share_linksreadThe share links that still work
revoke_share_linkwrite · destructiveWithdraw a share link
delete_filewrite · destructiveDelete one file you name

Every tool carries the standard annotations (read-only, destructive), so your assistant can ask before it changes or deletes anything.

§ 04Working with your documents

One document, many conversations.

  • Name it the way you would. “My Kanban board”, a path such as Projects/Kanban.idop, or the document’s IDOP Cloud link — the assistant finds that file and changes it in place, in any later conversation.
  • Pick it from a list. Your documents are offered as resources you can attach, and the connector brings prompts to continue, review or start a document; in Claude Code they are @ mentions and slash commands.
  • See it in the chat. Where the chat displays apps, a document the assistant makes or shows appears as a card: open it in IDOP Cloud, download it, or try it right there — a live preview, whose changes stay in the preview.
  • Keep the file yourself. Ask for the file instead of, or as well as, a copy in IDOP Cloud: you get a download link, which an assistant with a terminal can also save into a folder you name — or into a repository you work in.

§ 05Security and privacy

It acts as you, and nothing more.

  • The server holds no service key. Every request carries your own token, and the database's row-level security applies to it exactly as to the IDOP Cloud app.
  • Every document an assistant writes is packed and validated by the same core as the reader before it is saved.
  • We read a document only to answer the assistant's request, and keep nothing from it. What you exchange with the assistant is handled by its provider under its own terms.
  • You can withdraw the connection at any time in your assistant's settings; signing out of IDOP Cloud ends its sessions.
  • A document you ask for as a download is kept for 24 hours behind a link that only you are given, then deleted. Whoever has the link can download the file until then.
  • Using your account through an assistant counts as activity for the Free plan's 90-day rule.
