IDOP in general
What is IDOP?
An open file format for interactive documents. One .idop file carries a document’s interface, logic and data, and runs safely in any conforming reader. IDOP LABS develops the format and the tools around it, including IDOP Cloud.
Who is IDOP for?
Anyone who shares things that are more useful when they can be operated: calculators, trackers, lessons, reports, models. And developers who want to ship small tools as files instead of hosted applications.
Is IDOP a replacement for PDF or Word?
No. For text that only needs to be read, printed or edited as text, those formats are the right choice. IDOP is for documents that compute, respond or remember.
Is the format open?
The specification is published under CC BY 4.0, and anyone may implement it. The schemas are free to use. The reference implementation is not yet public; we intend to publish it.
Safety and privacy
Is it safe to open an .idop file from someone I do not know?
Opening it is designed to be safe: the file is validated in full, runs in a sandbox, and cannot reach the network without your consent. What it shows can still be misleading — treat its content with the same care as any document from a stranger.
Can a document read my other files or my API keys?
No. A document sees only its own package and its own saved state. Keys are held by the reader and attached to approved requests on the reader’s side.
Do you track visitors or users?
No. There is no advertising and no behavioural analytics on this website or in IDOP Cloud. See the Cookie Policy.
Where is my data stored?
Documents you open from your disk stay in your browser. Files you store in IDOP Cloud are kept with our providers, listed in the Privacy Policy; account data is stored in the EU.
IDOP Cloud
Do I need an account?
Not to open documents. An account is needed to store files in the cloud and to share links.
How much does it cost?
IDOP Cloud is free. Paid plans with more storage and team features are planned; see Pricing.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once installed and loaded. Templates you have opened are kept for offline use.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, in a mobile browser. Individual documents may be designed for larger screens.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Security → Delete account. Deletion is immediate; see the Privacy Policy for what happens to stored files.
Building documents
What do I need to write a document?
A text editor and a ZIP tool. Follow Getting started.
Can I use a JavaScript framework?
Yes, as long as the built output is HTML, CSS and JavaScript under code/, with no inline scripts, remote URLs or dynamic evaluation.
Can AI write IDOP documents?
Yes. Give any model our authoring prompt, then validate the result by opening it in IDOP Cloud.
Is there an API for IDOP Cloud?
A connector for AI assistants is in preview. A general public API is planned. See APIs.
